BALLET SLIPPERS
Ballet slippers. Leather vs. Canvas. Split sole vs full sole. Single or cross elastics?  How do I know what we need? How do I know what works best? Once I buy them, then what? All these questions are normal. The best thing to do is to talk to your teacher first. Find out what style they prefer to have in class. Every studio is different and have their reasons why they like one vs the other.

 LEATHER VS CANVAS
Leather slippers can be more expensive and will last longer but dancers like the feel of the canvas ballet slippers better. It really is a difference of opinion. If you are really torn take the type of dance floor into consideration. Leather slippers work well with wooden floors and canvas slippers are better on vinyl. Again, the best thing to do is check in with your dance studio first.

SPLIT SOLE VS FULL SOLE
There are two different types of soles, split sole vs full sole. The traditional ballet slipper has a full sole which is more structured and help the dancer really work the foot and ankle making it stronger. The full sole is a great prep for pointe since all pointe shoes are full soles. The split sole is newer to the dance world and allows the foot to have more functionality and freedom to move, flex and pointe.

CRISS CROSS VS STRAIGHT ACROSS
Some brands come with the elastics already sewn on the shoe. Others you have to do
yourself. Make sure you check with your studio prior to shopping or sewing. Depending
on the level of the dancer, you want to pull the straps closer to your heel to stay snug. It
is important that you feel secure when in your ballet slippers so you do not run the risk

of an injury.
